So 2022 was a bit of an interesting year, for many reasons, one of those was getting the opportunity to photograph my first same sex wedding. When I first met Shannon and Kerry I was very honest and told them that I had never had the chance to shoot a same sex wedding before. But I said that I would be delighted to if they felt they wanted me to have the honour of photographing their same sex wedding day. I’m pleased to say that they decided that I had the skills and know how to be able to photograph a same sex wedding with two brides! (Eeek!!)

We started things off nice and simple, with an engagement photo shoot, to give both the couple and myself the chance to work out how we wanted to do things on the day. Simple little details like how Kerry worked best holding Shannon, rather than vice versa (even they hadn’t thought of that one!) and little tricks like how to hold hands and walk and look at each other (rather than looking where you’re going, which isn’t as easy as it sounds!) and then it was pretty much all the same as usual, photographing a couple in love and capturing that.

Thankfully they were delgighted with their engagement photos and had clearly gotten over the awkwardness of being a couple expressing their love and bond together (infront of a stranger with a big camera telling them to cuddle, hold each other and kiss on command). That really helped all of us to feel like we could hit the wedding day with a good idea of how we were going to photograph this lovely same sex wedding.

The day itself, I was warned, was incredibly busy and full of family, friends and everyone who ever knew and loved this lovely couple. I got a full on work out running back and forth between the bridal prep rooms (it was a big hotel with many confusing stairs and dead ends!). But we did it! The day was beautiful, the couple were stunning, the crowd was loud and very merry! And photographing a wedding on Worthing sea front was also great fun! :-)

I’m happy to say that Shannon and Kerry, my first customers for a same sex wedding photography package, were absolutely amazing and the day was truly great fun (if a bit mad at times!). I’m really excited to be able to book more same sex weddings and would love to hear from you if you are planning your own same sex wedding and are looking for a photographer who is up for the job.
