As a wedding photographer I often get asked to travel to photograph weddings across various parts of the UK. I’ve photographed weddings in Cornwall, Derbyshire, Somerset, Swansea and many other locations across the country.

Somerset is one of my favourite (apart from the A303, which I think I’d rather just forget exists!).

So when Bev and Dan got in touch late last year and asked if I’d be willing to photograph their wedding in Somerset and they mentioned that it was going to be an outdoor, barn based wedding in the middle of a field I jumped at the opportunity.

The barn itself (Penny Square Barn in Batcombe) isn’t exactly your standard wedding venue, with electricity provided by the farmers’ tractor, there was at least running water and toilets for the guests. Dan, Bev and their friends arrived on scene early to set everything up and spend the weekend camping in the field next to the barn.

There was a definite festival/country theme running throughout their day. The decorations included a flock of flamingos front and centre for the ceremony, and hay-bales for guests to sit on the whole day was very much a relaxed affair.

Bev and Dan couldn’t have been much more relaxed, you’d have thought it was just a big party, not a wedding at times! But with their own personal vows and a mixture of traditional and no-traditional hints throughout their day, I can only say it’s going to take a while before I see another wedding that’s as ‘out there’ as this one.

All in all it was a beautiful and stunning wedding to photograph, made all the memorable by the stunning countryside location for their day, the sheer relaxedness (and muck-in-ness) of everyone there. It was a real blast, and I can’t wait to show them their finished wedding photos!
